Team members, who work together from around the world mainly through e-mail, chat and videoconferencing, may never actually meet face to face for the entire duration of their project. They work in global remote teams to reduce costs, increase competitiveness and provide an answer to increased globalisation.

Many organisations, however, have found that the effectiveness of these teams varies greatly. Global remote teams may lack commitment to shared goal. Team members may lack trust and be torn between conflicting loyalties to local and global colleagues.
