Ursula studied psychology at the University of Heidelberg and subsequently completed her Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and the University of Nijmegen in 1995. After her move to the Netherlands in 1988 she continued to develop her interests in the management of cross cultural business issues as a consultant to the Center for International Business Studies (now KPMG Trompenaars Hampden-Turner).

After completing a study of organisational integration in the Benelux, she co-established Intercultural Business Improvement together with Oscar van Weerdenburg. Trilingual in German, English and Dutch, she has been delivering courses and presentations for a number of public and private organisations, among them Casema, the École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, Fortis, GAK Netherlands, KasBank N.V., KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Stream International Europe, the Technical University Delft and swb AG Bremen.

Ursula is one of the first European-based consultants licensed to use the Intercultural Development Inventory (Hammer & Bennett, 1998), a tool to assess people's intercultural sensitivity, and has recently published three articles on the topic. She now manages two research projects at IBI for developing assessment tools on intercultural competence and intercultural conflict management skills, and has presented IBI's research findings at various conferences. Ursula is a member of the Nederlands Instituut voor Psychologen, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie, the Arbeitskreis Interkulturelle Kompetenz, Women's International Network and SIETAR Europe.
