Karen van der Zee

Karen van der Zee is Full Professor of Organisational Psychology at the University of Groningen. Her present area of research is Cultural Diversity in Organisations. In earlier work she focused on personnel selection and assessment, as well as stress coping strategies.

Karen's current fields of research include the development of selection and assessment tools for expatriates and management, integration strategies of emigrants and immigrants, integration of ethnic minorities on the job market, and the effectiveness of intercultural teams.

Together with Dr. Jan-Pieter van Oudenhoven, she has developed the Multicultural Personality Questionnaire, one of the first tools for assessing personality characteristics specifically designed for cross border assignments. Her collaboration with IBI has included the scientific supervision of a traineeship for developing the Intercultural Conflict Management Inventory, validation of the Intercultural Readiness Check and the analysis of the role of cross border experience in the development of intercultural sensitivity. (For more information on our work with Karen, see IBI Learning Programmes, our Publications page, and IBI Quarterly vol.1, no.1.)

Karen is a member of the Kurt Lewine Institute, the Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen, the Werkgroep Arbeids- en Organisatie Psychologie, the European Association of Work and Organisational Psychology and the European Association of Personality Psychology.
