Dick Plukker
After studying Indian and Iranian languages and cultures, Dick for several years worked as a researcher for New Indian Languages at the University of Amsterdam, where he completed his Ph.D. in 1981.
In 1989 he co-established a foundation on Indian cultures and languages. An expert in Indian cultures, Dick has advised and trained many organisations and private individuals who want to deepen their understanding of this highly diverse subcontinent. He knows what is going on in the Indian subcultures in the Netherlands, regularly provides language lessons in Hindi and Urdu, and organises courses, excursions, and lectures on India.
Dick has published several training books, among them the first Dutch training book on Hindi, as well as the Hindi voor Starters ('Hindi for Beginners'), the first Hindi training book for Dutch students at the High School level.
In 1997, Dick received his degree as a sworn translator of Hindi-Dutch. Since 1999, he is a member of the production group Startersvak Hindi ('Starting Topic Hindi') of the Center of Education in The Hague.
