Dik Linthout

A professional translator for Dutch, English and German, Dik Linthout combined his work in literary translations from early on with in-depth Dutch language training and integration programs for students of the Goethe-Institute in Amsterdam. After his translation of Das unbekannte Holland by Ernest Zahn in 1989, he intensified his work in the area of cultural differences and their historical basis between Germany and the Netherlands. Author of the book Onbekende Buren, Dik frequently holds seminars and lectures on the topic, and was invited in May 2001 to hold the opening speech for the exhibition Zimmer frei! at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Together with IBI consultant Ursula Brinkmann, he is currently working on a paper in which they explore the historical sources and present mechanisms of image formation between Dutch and Germans.
